Box Score SETTERS RALLY IN THE SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT ASSUMPTION

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters scored five goals in the second
half, including four in the game-breaking third, to defeat the
Assumption College Greyhounds, 7-4, in Pace's home opener. The
Setters improve to 1-0 overall and in the Northeast-10 Conference,
while Assumption drops to 0-1 overall and in conference play.
Following a scoreless opening period, the teams traded goals
during the second period. The Setters struck first as Kenneth Lysik
(Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) scored an unassisted goal. The Greyhounds
responded as Steve Smith netted Assumption's first goal of the game
off an assist by Donnie Bowers. Joe Infante (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow) (Sleepy
Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow) answered for the Setters,
putting Pace back in the lead off as assist by Robert Cornetta (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills West)
(Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills W). Assumption
rallied to tie the score at two, as Kevin Jurgens took
a feed from Bryan Parks to cap the scoring for the half.
Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) put the Setters back up
with a power-play goal off an assist by Chris Harris (Farmingdale, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) (Kings Park,
NY/Half Hollow Hills East). Assumption knotted the score at three,
as Jurgens tallied his second goal of the afternoon on the power
play, with Brian Martin recording the assist.
The Setters put the game out of reach, scoring four unanswered
goals led by Lysik's two scores and goals by Justin Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) (Eagan,
MN/Eagan) and Gregory. Assumption tacked on a late goal by Mike
Molk to cap the scoring for the day.
Lysik's three goal performance, along with Gregory's two scores
keyed the win for the Setters. In net, freshman Timothy
Matheis (Lindehurst, NY/Lindehurst) stopped 10 shots to pick
up his first collegiate win. For Assumption, Jurgens netted
two scores to led the Greyhounds. In goal, Chris Bird recorded 28
saves on the afternoon.
