Box Score 2 SHIPPENSBURG, PA. – Saturday afternoon, Pace softball handled business away from their home field, defeating Shippensburg University in both games of their doubleheader match-up. In game one, a 5-0 shutout favored Pace while in game two, a high-scoring affair ended with a 14-8 victory for the Blue and Gold.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Setters begin their 2025 season with four straight wins as they prepare next for a trip out to the West Coast.
Game One
- Opening the day, both teams kept each other in check through the first three innings. Gisselle Garcia commanded the circle in game one, striking out six of the first ten batters.
- In the fourth inning, an RBI single from Aubrey Carroll marked the opening run of the game, while Garcia continued her pitching dominance.
- Later on, two more runs touched home plate as Pace increased their lead to 3-0 off RBIs from Willa Poplawski and Raelle Gorman.
- In the seventh, the Blue and Gold tacked on two more runs led by RBIs from Riley Jenkins and Gorman. By the end of the top half of the inning, Pace held a 5-0 advantage, with Garcia returning to the circle for one final inning to close out the Raiders.
- Garcia fanned 12 hitters in the game, going seven innings while allowing no runs and four hits.
Game Two
- In the second game of the doubleheader, both offenses shined at the plate, with Pace jumping ahead 5-1 after two innings.
- In the bottom of the third, a rally from Shippensburg helped the home squad swipe the lead from Pace 6-5. However, the Setters answered back quickly, posting back-to-back three run innings to take an 11-6 advantage into the top of the sixth.
- In the final two innings, the Blue and Gold outscored the Raiders 3-2 to put the finishing touches on a 14-8 victory.
- The offensive onslaught included 16 hits, eight doubles, and two home runs.
- In the circle, the trio of Alyssa Smart, Priscilla Del Toro, and Garcia combined for seven innings pitched, two strikeouts, and six earned runs.
