Edmond’s Clutch Bat Leads Softball Past Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace Softball secured a Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) doubleheader sweep over Bentley University on Friday, taking game one, 4-2, before earning a 3-2 extra-inning victory in game two at home. The Setters improved to 25-25 overall and 15-19 in NE10 play, using strong pitching performances and timely hitting to complete the sweep.

Game One
Pace settled in after an early deficit and responded behind consistent offense and a complete-game performance in the circle.

Bentley took a 2-0 lead in the second, but the Setters answered in the third. Faith Scally doubled to open the inning before Kaylee Matsuda brought home a run on a sacrifice fly. Riley Jenkins followed with an RBI single to even the score at 2-2.

The Blue and Gold took the lead in the fourth when Ava Edmond launched a solo home run to right field, making it 3-2. Pace added an insurance run in the sixth, as Katerina Luna singled and later scored on an RBI single from Addison Martinez to push the lead to 4-2.

Priscilla Del Toro went the distance, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five to earn her 10th win of the season.

Game Two (8 innings)
The second game featured a tight battle that extended into extra innings.

After four scoreless innings, Bentley broke through with two runs in the fourth. Pace responded in the fifth when Nikki Chong scored on a sacrifice fly from Ashley Field to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Setters tied the game in the seventh as Faith Scally came around to score on a clutch RBI double from Kara King, making it 2-2.

In the eighth, Addison Martinez singled to lead off the inning and moved into scoring position before Ava Edmond delivered the walk-off RBI single up the middle, sealing the 3-2 victory.

Nikki Chandler kept Pace within reach, allowing just two runs (none earned) over five innings with seven strikeouts, while Alyssa Smart tossed three hitless innings in relief to earn the win.

Chong and Martinez each recorded two hits in game two, while Edmond delivered the game-winning RBI as Pace completed the sweep.

Pace totaled 16 hits across the doubleheader and limited Bentley to just five runs, continuing a strong stretch of pitching and late-game execution.

The Setters close out the series against Bentley University on Saturday with a Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m., with Senior Day festivities scheduled to begin at 11:40 a.m.
