PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After a long off season, springtime has arrived in Pleasantville, N.Y. and with that, Setter's baseball is just around the corner.
This week, the 2024 season will kick off with a trip down to Cary, N.C. where the Blue and Gold will battle Slippery Rock University for an opening double-header before taking on Wilmington University (Del.) and Dominican University of New York. The first pitch on Friday in North Carolina is set for 10:00 a.m.
Pace's home opening will take place on Mar. 6th at 3:00 p.m. with a match-up against Caldwell University. All home games will be played at Peter X. Finnerty Field with Alex Zeller as the voice behind the broadcasts.
Head coach Henry Manning returns for his 24th season at the helm of the baseball team. The rest of the coaching staff will round out with Pete Raimondi (18th season), Tim Bausher (6th season), and Joe Kesselmark (3rd season).
Northeast Region Pitcher of the Year Patrick Gleason will return to the top of the pitching staff for his 5th year with the Setter's. Last year, Gleason boasted an 8-2 record with an impressive 1.81 earned run average in 74.2 total innings on the mound. Following him in the rotation will be left hander Vincent Civitella and sophomore Brendan McCann. Civitella secured a 6-3 record last season with a 2.98 earned run average while McCann tallied four wins and a 3.40 earned run average.
The Setters have several important pieces returning to the squad for 2024. Anthony Labita should continue to provide consistent offense for Pace in his senior year. The third baseman is coming off a season with a .319 batting average where he was third in runs batted in (35) and second in home runs (10).
Shortstop Mason Baronian looks to build upon his strong second year that saw him lead the team in hits (69) and batting average (.350). Lead-off hitter Josh Miller will retain his role at the top of the batting order after supplying ten stolen bases and a .308 batting average.
One player who will look to take their game to the next level will be Benjamin Tullo. Tullo hopes to improve upon his solid freshman season in which he posted 37 hits, 27 runs batted in, and a perfect 7-7 stolen bases.
