PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace cross country team returns to action for the 2023 season this weekend at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational at Vassar College.
Pace is under the direction of first-year head coach,
Molly Darfler-Sweeney who assumed the head coaching position following her career at Pace as a member of the cross country team.
On the women's side, many Setters from last year's team are set to return to the course for Pace, including
Samira Bawa (Bronx, N.Y./Metropolitan Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy),
Jordan Etheridge (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle),
Meryl Mizell (Round Rock, Texas/Stony Point) and
Emma Voykhanskaya (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow). They are joined by newcomers
Raelle Gormon (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and
Madison Picerno (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon).
As for the men, a sizeable number of returners will rep the Setters once again. Headlining this group are Nicholas Baker,
CJ Defeo (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) and
Ceasar Lugo (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman). Joining the returners on the course
Carlos Zhicay (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore),
Adem Ozkurt (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester High School),
Zion Brisbane () and
Emre Ferahoglu ().
Following this weekends meet, the next time the Setters will take to the course is Sept. 15 for the New Paltz Invitational. After that, the Setters will head to Bard College for the Fred Pavlich Invitational on Sept. 23.
Following the weekend at Bard, the team will run at the Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by St. Josephs in Bethpage, N.Y. on Sept. 29. The final regular season meet is hosted by St. Josephs in Kings Park, N.Y. on Oct. 14.
The NE10 Championships will be hosted by American International College on Oct. 22 and will be broadcast on NE10 Now.
