PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University women's soccer junior Shannon Selvaggio (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) has been named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of sterling performances to start the season.
 
The Warwick, N.Y., native started and was a stout presence on the backline in both of Pace's games last week, while making significant offensive forays as well.
 
In Thursday's season opener against Georgian Court, Selvaggio crossed a pinpoint pass from deep in the corner to Allison Carr (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) which was headed into the net for the Setters' first score of the season. 
 
It was Selvaggio's first career assist. 
 
In the second half of that contest, the junior's defensive skills shined and helped to blank the Lions, allowing the Blue & Gold to tie the game late.
 
Against Post University on Saturday night, the junior's elegant passes and timely deflections and takeaways yet again helped to blank an opponent in the second half.
 
Then with the game tied 2-2 in the 66^th minute, Selvaggio found space inside the box and blasted a goal past the goalkeeper to give Pace the lead en route to a 4-2 win. 
 
It was Selvaggio's first career game-winner.
