GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – On Wednesday night in a tightly contested Northeast 10 (NE10) Conference match-up, Pace University Women's Soccer battled wire-to-wire before falling just short, 1-0, to Adelphi University. The Setters finish the regular season 8-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play as they enter the postseason representing the conference as the seventh seed.
Pace opened the match in strong form, establishing possession early and outshooting Adelphi 9-8 across the first 45 minutes. Forward
Allison Carr sparked the attack with an early chance in the fifth minute, while
Ava Viebrock continued to apply pressure with multiple shots that forced the Panther goalkeeper into action.
The Setters' back line, led by the trio of
Anna English,
Milani Thompson, and
Hannah Rautenstrauch, stood firm through a sequence of four Adelphi corner kicks in the half. In goal, senior
Anna Fiore was outstanding, turning away four shots to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Adelphi eventually found the breakthrough in the 56th minute when they finished off a setup to put the score in favor of the home squad.
Pace immediately worked to respond, with Carr nearly equalizing minutes later on a left-footed effort that was saved, followed by another dangerous chance from Viebrock. Fiore continued to shine for the Setters defensively, finishing the night with eight saves, including several in one-on-one situations.
Despite late pressure and four corner kicks in the second half, the Setters couldn't convert the tying goal, closing the match with a 14-20 shot differential but five shots on net.
With the 2025 regular season in the books, the Blue and Gold now head to Rindge, N.H., for an NE10 first-round battle against the second-seed, Franklin Pierce University. Playoff action is set to kick off between the Ravens and Setters at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
