Pace Softball to Host SCSU in NE10 First Round on Tuesday

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ending the regular season in fifth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings, the Pace University softball team will host eighth-seeded Southern Connecticut State in the NE10's first round on Tuesday afternoon.

2022 Snapshot
The Setters head into the postseason with an overall record of 27-18, including a mark of 14-12 in the NE10. Pace's season was highlighted by a 15-1 stretch from late March to mid-April.

The Blue and Gold were especially strong at home this year with a 17-5 record.

Dominance in the Circle
Freshman Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) has put together one of the best seasons in program history. The California native went 15-7 with a 1.39 ERA across 156.2 innings pitched.

Garcia's rookie campaign also features 196 strikeouts, which is the most ever by a Pace pitcher. She eclipsed Angela Locsin's previous record of 171 from 2002.

Garcia and Locsin are also linked in another noteworthy way. Garcia tossed Pace's first seven-inning no-hitter since Locsin on April 20 against New Haven. She finished the game with nine strikeouts while allowing just two baserunners on walks.

Offensively Speaking
Pace's lineup consists of four players hitting over .300 this season. Senior Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) leads the way with a .373 batting average that ranks ninth in the NE10. She is also tops on the team in RBIs (27), walks (15) and on-base percentage (.456).

Junior Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) comes in behind Iverson in both batting average (.315) and RBIs (25), while starting all 45 of Pace's games in centerfield.

Freshman Brianna Shea (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino ) leads the Setters in home runs with five. In fact, her five long balls are the most by a Pace player since 2017. She is also batting .314 with a pair of triples.

More Pace Pitching
Sophomore Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) has posted an extremely strong second season in Pleasantville. The right-hander tallied a 7-4 record and a 2.82 ERA in 87.0 innings pitched.

Collectively speaking, the Setters' staff ranks second in the NE10 in batting average against this season (.226).

Coach Stabile
Head Coach Claudia Stabile has now led the Setters to eight consecutive appearances in the NE10 Tournament. Pace won its first NE10 title in 2016 before advancing to back-to-back championship games in 2018 and 2019.

Stabile's 41 years at the helm of Pace are the most by any softball coach across all NCAA Divisions. She enters the 2022 postseason with 782 career victories in Pleasantville.

Scouting SCSU
The Owls currently hold a 17-20-1 record with a mark of 12-13-1 in the NE10. SCSU is 3-11 in road contests this year.

Individually, senior Jacqueline Dumont has enjoyed one of the best seasons in the NE10. She currently ranks in the top-five of the conference in batting average (.424), hits (53), RBIs (37), and home runs (8).
