Softball Drops Two to Adelphi Despite Late Push in Opener

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Tuesday, Pace University Softball dropped a Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) doubleheader against Adelphi University, falling 6–4 in game one and 12–2 in game two at the Pace Softball Field. The Blue and Gold mounted a late rally in the opener but could not complete the comeback before Adelphi pulled away in the second game, moving to 12–11 overall and 5–5 in the NE10.

Game One
The Panthers struck early in the opener, scoring two runs in the first inning on a home run to take a 2–0 lead. The Panthers added another run in the fourth before breaking the game open in the fifth, capitalizing on defensive miscues to extend the lead to 6–0.

The Blue and Gold responded in the bottom half of the fifth when Kara King delivered an RBI single to score Ava Edmond, cutting the deficit to 6–1.

Pace continued to battle in the seventh inning with a late push. King added another RBI single, while Katerina Luna lifted a sacrifice fly and Alyssa Smart followed with an RBI single to bring the score to 6–4. The Blue and Gold brought the tying run to the plate, but were unable to complete the comeback.

King led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Luna and Riley Jenkins each drove in a run. Edmond finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored as Pace totaled 10 hits.

In the circle, Smart tossed a complete game, allowing six runs (four earned) while striking out seven.

Game Two
The second game saw Adelphi take control early once again, scoring two runs in the second inning before adding three more in the third to build a 5–1 lead.
Pace got on the board in the second inning as Ava Edmond launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 2–1.

The Panthers continued to add on with two runs in the fifth before a five-run seventh inning put the game out of reach at 12–2.

The Blue and Gold added their second run in the sixth when Willa Poplawski delivered an RBI single to score Kaylee Matsuda, but were unable to generate further offense.

Poplawski led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Edmond added a home run. Kara King also recorded a multi-hit performance as Pace finished with six hits.

In the circle, Priscilla Del Toro took the loss, while Nikki Chandler and Abbie Graupman provided relief across the final innings.

The Setters meet the Greyhounds of Assumption University next for a Friday doubleheader set to begin at 2:00 p.m. as NE10 play continues to ramp up.
