Pace Basketball Teams to Host NE10 Quarterfinal Doubleheader on Monday Night

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Continuing a sensational 2021-22 campaign on both sides, the Pace University basketball teams will host a Northeast-10 Conference Tournament doubleheader on Monday night. Both Setter squads will take on Stonehill College in the NE10 Quarterfinals, beginning with women's tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for Monday's games are available on PaceUAthletics.com. Tickets are general admission and are $5 for all spectators. Students currently attending Northeast-10 institutions are free admission with a student ID. All tickets must be reserved in advance.

Women's Preview
Following a decisive home victory over Saint Michael's (76-64) in the NE10 first round, the second-seeded Setters welcome the third-seeded Skyhawks to the Goldstein Fitness Center on Monday.

Coach Seymour's squad went ahead of the Purple Knights, 10-8, off a pair of graduate student Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) free throws at the 5:02 mark of the first quarter, and would hold on to that lead for the rest of the game, eventually going up by as many as 19 points.

The free-throw line and bench production were the driving forces in the Pace win, with Katumina Mansaray (Ontario, Canada/Cardinal Newman Secondary School/Tilton School) serving as the chief contributor in both categories.

The sophomore guard, who hails from the Great White North, aggressively drove into the lane time and again for 17 of Pace's season-high 32 bench points, including a flawless team-high 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Pace shot 21-of-23 from the line, demoralizing every Saint Michael's comeback attempt.

Up next for the Setters is a date with the reigning, defending NE10 champion Stonehill Skyhawks. It will be a rematch of a regular-season win for Pace (67-54) that took place just two and a half weeks ago on Feb. 10 in Pleasantville.

The Skyhawks began their championship defense on Friday with an opening-round, 65-55 home win against the College of Saint Rose. Senior Kayla Raymond led the team with 23 points.

Men's Preview
The Pace men's basketball team, the outright NE10 Southwest Division champions and top seed in the conference tournament, will now face fourth-seeded Stonehill.

The Blue and Gold received an automatic bye into the quarterfinals following last week's home defeat of Le Moyne, 73-64. The win also clinched a 12-0 season sweep for Pace over the entire division.

Stonehill also defeated the Dolphins last week in the first round of the tournament on Friday night, 58-52.

The Setters enter the tournament on a seven-game winning streak and playing some of their best basketball of the season.

Well-equipped on both sides of the court, Pace finished the regular season with either the best or second-best conference marks in several key offensive and defensive categories, including overall field-goal percentage (46.6%), three-point shooting percentage (38.1%), assists per game (15.1), points per game allowed (67.2), opponents' field goal percentage (39.7), rebound margin per game (+3.8), and steals per game (7.1).

Individually, junior Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) is Pace's leading scorer and rebounder this season at 14.5 points and 6.3 boards per contest.

Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) at 13.5 and Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) at 12.0 are also averaging in double figures. Jacobs currently ranks second in the NE10 in assists per game (5.7) as well.

The Setters defeated Stonehill in their only meeting this season, 78-66, back on Jan. 19 behind a dazzling 11-of-14, 3-of-3 from three, 27-point shooting display from Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School).
