PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After serving on the organization's board of the directors over the last three years, Pace University's men's lacrosse coach, Tom Mariano, has been named the President of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
"It's an honor to represent all the schools and players in college lacrosse," said Mariano. "The USILA traces our lacrosse history back to 1882. I would like to thank Gene McCabe for his tireless work as president, he has been a tremendous ambassador for the USILA."
Mariano, who will be beginning his seventh season at Pace this spring, has led the Setters to historic heights during his tenure. Under his leadership, the Blue and Gold have put together a 57-35 record (.620) over the past six seasons. He was named the NE10's Co-Coach of the Year in 2017 following a season in which the Setters earned their first-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament. This past year, the Blue and Gold tallied the program's most wins in a season since 1999 (13).
Pace was ranked in every USILA National Poll last spring, rising to as high as No. 6 in mid-March. Following the season, Mariano was chosen as one of the coaches for the USILA Senior All-Star Game. He led the North squad, which also featured the Setters' own Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) and Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, N.J./Depaul Catholic).
Coach Mariano's teams have also impressed in the classroom during his time in Pleasantville. In fact, Pace's 2018 squad earned the NE10's Team Excellence Award, signifying the highest cumulative GPA in the conference (3.17).
