Pace Baseball's Wirchansky Named NCAA's Statistical Champion for ERA

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Rising senior Dan Wirchansky (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland/RCC) of the Pace University baseball team has been named the 2018 NCAA Division II statistical champion in earned-run average as announced by the NCAA Statistics Department. Wirchansky's 0.71 ERA this past spring was more than 0.3 lower than any other pitcher in the country.

Wirchansky, a third-team D2CCA All-American, put forth one of the most dominant pitching stretches in recent history in 2018. The right-hander registered a 5-1 record, tossing eight or more innings in each of his six starts. Additionally, he tallied 63 strikeouts compared to just five walks in 51 innings of action.

Wirchansky began the season in historic fashion, throwing what is believed to be the first perfect game in school history against Dominican—striking out 16 in the process. He was a two-time recipient of both the NE10 and ECAC Pitcher of the Week honors. Additionally, he took home one NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week and East Region Pitcher of the Week award.

Wirchansky's latest recognition is added to a resume that includes an NE10 All-Conference First Team selection, and All-Region accolades from the NCBWA, the D2CCA and the ABCA.
