Box Score Winter Park, FL - The Pace University Setters downed the Falcons of Bentley University 8-4 this afternoon in their fourth of seven ballgames played in the sunshine state of Florida. Pace improves to 6-4-1 overall, while Bentley University falls to 5-7.
Pace went to work early with lively bats as they took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) started things off with a single that scooted through the left side. After a pair of outs, Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) blasted an RBI triple down the right field line scoring Turnier all the way from first. The Setters would add another run to their lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single from Steven Martinez (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac).
Bentley began to answer shortly, cutting the Setter lead in half. The Falcons would score a run in the bottom of the third inning on three hits. However, with a few innings of shutout baseball the Setters earned two more runs in the top of the sixth. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) started things off singling up the middle, followed a double down the left field line from Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff). Another big hit would follow for Pace. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) hit a two run RBI double down the right field line, scoring Wright and Lombardi from first and second base.
However, the Falcons would not lie down. In the bottom of the seventh, Bentley scored two runs on three big hits to make the score 4-3 in favor of Pace.
In the top of the eighth the Setters would add two runs to their lead with a plethora of walks, and base hits. Pace added two runs, on three hits with two left on. The bottom of the inning would be the last time Bentley saw any runs of their own. On two hits they were able to manage their fourth run of the game. With the game pretty much wrapped up the Setters added two more runs to their score taking a commanding 8-4 lead, and eventual win.
Shinning for Pace was Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) who went 4-for-5 at the dish scoring two runs. Also contributing was Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) and Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) (East Hampton, NY /East Hampton) both going 2-for-3 with Wright scoring a run. Defensively, Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) pitched well, throwing three innings and striking out three.
Pace returns to action tomorrow Thursday, March 17th when they matchup against Stonehill College in Winter Park, FL at 11:00 am.
