Box Score ALBANY, N.Y.- The Setters dropped a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Golden Knights of Saint Rose 67-60 in the Quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Setters fall to 22-8 on the season, while the Golden Knights improve to 21-6 and advance to the NE-10 semifinals at Bentley.
In the first half, the Setters would take a 12-9 lead in early action. The Golden Knight used a 7-0 run to take the lead 16-12 midway through the opening half. The Setters would tie the game at 16 but Saint Rose would pull ahead 22-18. A triple by Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) got the Setters to within one at 22-21 but the Golden Knights would hold a 26-23 lead heading into the break. Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led Pace in the first half with eight points and seven rebounds.
The Setters would hang around early in the second half as they would eventually jump in the lead at 38-37 on a trifecta by Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) with 13:23 left in the game. St. Rose would retake the lead on a triple from Amy Voelkel but the Setters would battle back to a tie at 42 on a pair of free throws by Shields with 10:43 remaining in the game.
The Setters and Golden Knights would battle it out on the scoreboard the rest of the way with each team leading by no more than three points. It would come down to the final seconds as Cleary gave Pace a three-point lead with 11 seconds left in regulation. Voelkel would force an extra period with a long three-pointer to tie the game at 58.
Saint Rose would jump out to a 63-38 lead in overtime and would never relinquish the lead as they held the Setters to two points in the extra session.
The Setters were led by Shields who finished with a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds in the game.
Pace will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The selection show is scheduled to be webcast via ncaa.com on Sunday, March 6 at 9:30 pm.
