Box Score Springfield, MA - The Pace University women's basketball team won tonight over the Yellow Jackets of American International College by a score of 69-62 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. The Setters improve to 21-7 overall, and 15-7 in conference play while the Yellow Jackets fall to 18-9 overall, and 14-8 in the NE-10.
Pace started the game on a good note driving the Yellow Jackets into a hole in the first few minutes of the game. The Setters went on a 6-0 run to start things off before American International would score their first basket. Back and forth action would pick up with American International catching up to Pace by the halfway point in the first period tying things up at 13 apiece. Fortunately the Setters would quickly pick their play back up going on an 8-0 run taking the lead, 21-13 with six minutes to play in the first half. The Yellow Jackets would battle back somewhat however, as they would head into the locker room at the break down by three, 27-24.
The second half would be a bit more of a nail biter. Both teams came out firing, taking the lead and giving it up more than six times apiece. With ten minutes to play in regulation the score would be tied for the eighth time at 43 all. At this point in the game the Setters buckled down not allowing the Yellow Jackets to regain the lead for the remainder of the game. Eventually Pace would win by a seven point margin 69-62.
Shinning for the Setters was Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) with 18 points, seven total rebounds, and two assist. Also stepping up was Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) with a double-double performance scoring 15 points, and pulling down 14 total rebounds.
The Setters return to action Sunday, February 27th for the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Playoff game in Pleasantville, NY at 1:00 pm against the Saint Anselm Hawks.
