Box Score Rindge, NH- The Pace University women's basketball team lost a Northeast-10 matchup to Franklin Pierce University. The Setters fell to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improved to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in conference action this season. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) reached her 1,000 career point milestone despite the loss. She was the 24th women's basketball player in Pace history to do so.
Pace got off a decent start trading baskets with the Ravens for much of the first five minutes. With the score at 10-9 Pace would give up the lead and retake it twice until the half way point of the first period. At the ten minute mark the Setters would lead by seven, 19-12. The Ravens would not quit however. After a few baskets and a couple of clutch shots taken from behind the arc Franklin Pierce would find themselves down by only one point at halftime, 34-33.
The Setters would draw first blood in the second half improving their lead to 36-33. However, the resiliency of Franklin Pierce would be tested. With 15 minutes left in regulation the Ravens would take the lead and continue to separate themselves from Pace to 45-40. For the rest of the game both teams would continue to trade baskets with the score staying within six points of each other. With one minute to go Pace would take its last lead of the game at 64-63. Unfortunately,
the Setters would lose that lead on Franklin Pierce's next basket and never regain it, falling by one point.
Shinning for the Setters was Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) with 28 points and six total rebounds. Also shinning for Pace was Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St.Peter's) with 17 points, 15 of which from the three point arc. Welsome also recorded six assists, and three rebounds.
Pace returns to action Saturday, January 8th against NE-10 Conference foe Stonehill College at 1:30 pm in Pleasantville, NY.
