Box Score SETTERS RALLY IN SECOND HALF
TO LOCK UP #5 SEED IN NE-10 TOURNAMENT
CLARK NETS SIX GOALS IN 17-10 WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE
RINDGE, N.H.– Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) (Hopkinton,
MA/Hopkinton) totaled six goals, while James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North
Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) netted all four in the second
half as the Setters rallied from a halftime deficit to win 17-10
over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters
improve to 7-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play, locking up the
#5 seed in the NE-10 Tournament. The Ravens fall to 5-8 and 2-8 in
conference play.
Clark got the Setters off to an early lead with a pair of first
quarter goals. Franklin Pierce would answer with a pair of late
goals to tie the score at two after one quarter of play.
The teams would trade goals as Mike Pacheco (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings)
(Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) and Clark would give
Pace a 4-3 late in the second quarter. The Ravens would net a pair
of goals in the final minute of play to head into halftime leading
5-4.
Kevin
Swierc (Clark, BNY/Arthur L. Johnson) and Hammel
opened the second half with a goal each to put the Setters back in
front 6-5. The Ravens would rally with three unanswered goals to
pull ahead 8-6 with 10:14 left in the third quarter.
Pace would rally with a nine goal run, lasting to the 6:26 mark
of the fourth quarter to pull ahead 15-8. Clark would net three
goals in the run, while Hammel and John Kolesar (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick,
NY/Warwick Valley) each tallied two goals to secure the
victory the Pace. The teams traded goals down the stretch as Hammel
and Kolesar each netted a goals in the final four minutes of play.
For Pace, Clark finished with six goals, while Hammel netted
four scores on the day. Kolesar tallied three goals and two
assists, while Swierc totaled a goal and two assists. In net,
Sean
Kearney (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac/Endicott College)
recorded eight saves in just over 55 minutes of action.
#5 seed Pace returns to action on Tuesday, May 4 when the
Setters travel to Waltham, MA to face #4 seed Bentley
University in the NE-10 Quarterfinals at 7 pm.
