Box Score SETTERS COME AWAY WITH NE-10
VICTORY OVER GOLDEN KNIGHTS
ALBANY, NY- The Pace University baseball team earned a
Northeast-10 Conference victory over the College of Saint Rose
Golden Knights this afternoon, by a 4-2 score. The Setters are now
8-17 overall, and 4-9 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights fall
to 7-20 overall, and 2-9 in conference play.
Saint Rose would quickly jump onto the board knocking in two
runs in the bottom half of the first.
The Setters wasted no time in making a comeback by scoring two
runs in the top of the second inning. Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington)
(Poughquag, NY/Arlington) would lead off the inning with a
double to right center. Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick,
NY/Warwick Valley) followed up with a single bringing Hart
in scoring position on third. A single to right center from
Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) in
the next at bat would score Hart and bring Martineson to third.
Martineson would score on Pace's second run of the inning on
a ground out.
The game would remain tied until the seventh inning, when
Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton)
got the Setters going with a two out double. A single down the
right field line by Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) would score Rodriguez's pinch runner
Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) to give the
Setters a 3-2 advantage.
An error by the Golden Knights in the top half of the ninth
inning would give the Setters an insurance run to lead to a 4-2
win.
Freshman Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury, NY/WT
Clarke) was the winning pitcher against the Golden
Knights, and is now 3-1 on the season. Sundberg pitched 7 1/3
innings, allowing two runs (one earned), on five hits and two
walks.
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) would
ultimately end the game for the Setters, pitching an inning for his
fourth save of the season. Luongo pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout in the ninth.
The Setters return to action on Thursday April, 8 for a rematch
against the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose at 3:30
p.m. at Pace's Finnerty Field.
