Box Score SETTERS PULLS AWAY WITH A
3-1 WIN OVER PANTHERS FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE WIN
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University baseball team was
victorious over the Panthers of Adelphi University this afternoon
by a 3-1 score in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters
improve to 15-25 overall and 8-16 in the NE-10, while the Panthers
fall to 29-14 overall and 15-9 in conference play.
The bats were silenced until the top of the third inning when
the Panthers drove home their first and only run of the ball game
to take a 1-0 lead.
The Setters fired right back in the bottom of the third, when
Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood)
(Middle Island, NY/Longwood) started things up with a
leadoff double. Wright would score when Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford,
CT/Westhill) hit a one out single to left, pushing across
the first run of the game for Pace to tie the game at one. After a
single by Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) moved Horn to third, Horn would then come home as
the lead run when JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg,
NJ/Wallkill Valley) singled through the left side to give
Pace a 2-1 lead. Spatkowski led the Setters in hitting on the day
going 3-for-4 in the ball game.
Pace would add on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh
when Wright singled through the right side scoring Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea
Cliff, NY/North Shore) from second to make the game
3-1.
Michael
Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (2-2) started on the
mound for the Setters, pitching five innings allowing just one run
on two hits, while walking four and striking out one. Michael
Mastrogiovanni (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) (1) pitched
in relief to eventually earn his first save of the season, going 2
2/3 innings allowing one hit, one walk, and a strikeout.
The Setters will return to action on Friday, April 30 when they
face off against Dowling College in a non-conference doubleheader
set to start at 2 pm at Pace's Finnerty Field.
