Baseball Unable to Hold Early Lead in Loss to Felician

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Baseball jumped out to an early lead but could not contain a pivotal middle-inning surge, falling to Felician University, 12-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The Setters controlled the opening frames before Felician broke the game open, moving Pace to 12-15 overall.

The Blue and Gold struck first in the opening inning, as Rocco Cimino launched a solo home run to left to give Pace a 1-0 lead. The Setters added another run later in the frame when Benjamin Tullo scored on a wild pitch, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Pace maintained control through the early innings behind strong work on the mound. The Setters held Felician hitless through four innings, limiting opportunities and keeping the momentum on their side.

Felician broke through in the fifth, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to cut the deficit to 2-1. The momentum shifted fully in the sixth inning, as Felician erupted for nine runs to turn a one-run game into a 10-2 lead.

The Golden Falcons added two more runs in the eighth to extend the lead to 12-2. Pace was unable to respond offensively down the stretch, as Felician's bullpen held the Setters scoreless over the final six innings.

Cimino led the offense with two hits, including the home run, while Tullo and Greg Becker each added doubles. The Setters finished with four hits in the contest and were limited after the opening inning.

The Setters continue their homestand tomorrow as NE10 play resumes with a meeting against Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
