NE-10 VICTORY OVER ADELPHI
SUNDBERG ALLOWS ONE RUN OVER NINE INNINGS IN WIN
GARDEN CITY, NY- The Pace University baseball team was
victorious over the Panthers of Adelphi University this afternoon
by a 3-1 score in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters
improve to 14-25 overall and 7-16 in the NE-10, while the Panthers
fall to 29-13 overall and 15-8 in conference play.
Freshman Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury, NY/WT
Clarke) (5-1) was stellar against the Panthers, pitching
nine innings allowing one earned run on five hits, three walks, and
three strikeouts.
The Setters started scoring early when Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) drew a bases loaded, two-out walk to
draw in the game's first run to give Pace a 1-0 lead in the
top of the first.
A two out single by Chris Spatkowski (Bristol,
CT/Bristol Eastern) in the top of the fourth inning, drove
home an insurance run for Pace to make the lead 2-0.
Another run was added on to Pace's lead in the top of the
fifth when Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) smacked a home run to right field to give the
Setters a 3-0 lead.
Adelphi would put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth,
but the Sundberg's pitching kept the Panthers at bay, helping
the Setters hold on to the 3-1 win.
The Setters will resume play tomorrow when they face off against
the Adelphi University Panthers in a rematch at Pace's
Finnerty Field set for a 3:30 pm start.
