Box Score FIVE-RUN THIRD INNING HELPS
SETTERS PAST CHARGERS IN 9-3 WIN
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Pace University's baseball team used a
five run rally in the bottom of the third to eventually come away
with a 9-3 victory over the Dominican College Chargers this
afternoon in non-conference action. The Setters improve to 11-22
overall while the Chargers fall to 15-12 overall this season.
The Setters were left hitless until they broke out a five-run
rally in the bottom of the third innings. Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison)
(West Harrison, NY/Harrison) started the rally with an
infield single. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Galasso
would score the game's first run on a Sterlacci single up the
middle.
After the bases were loaded up by walks, Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire)
(Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) drove in his first of three runs
on a single through the left side. Torello was 3-for-4 in the game
with three RBI's and two runs scored. Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic)
(Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) would then hit a
ball that was called a ground rule double, adding two more runs to
give the Setters a 4-0 lead. Torello would then score on a one out
groundout by Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington)
which would end the third inning rally.
Dominican would remain scoreless until the fifth inning when
they pushed across two runs, but the Setters immediately responded
in the bottom half of the fifth when a double to center by Torello
would push across a run to make the score 6-2.
The Setters kept expanding their lead in the bottom of the
sixth, when Laurence Flammia (Massapeaqua Park, NY/St. Anthony's) (Massapequa Park, NY/St.
Anthony's) advanced from first to third on two wild
pitches, and ultimately score on a throwing error by the catcher to
bring the score to 7-2.
Pace tagged on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning
after a Torello single to center would score Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley)
(Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) from third. Torello would later
score from third on a wild pitch.
The Chargers would add on a final run in the ninth, but the
deficit was too much for Dominican to overcome.
Pace's Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook,
NY/Lynbrook) (1-2) was given the win after a perfect
inning of relief, with one strikeout.
The Setters will return to action on Saturday, April 17 when
they take on Northeast-10 conference foe Franklin Pierce
University, in a doubleheader starting at noon at Pace's
Finnerty Field.
