DOUBLEHEADER TO SAINT ANSELM
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Pace University's baseball team dropped
a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to the Hawks of Saint Anselm
College. The Setters fell in game one to the Hawks 14-2, and in
game two 9-5. Pace now drops to 8-20 overall, and 4-12 in the
NE-10, while the Hawks improves to 7-18 overall, and 5-9 in the
NE-10.
A run in the top of the second inning would give the Hawks a 1-0
advantage. Pace's Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) lead off the bottom of the fourth
with a walk, and eventually score on a Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle
Island, NY/Longwood) groundout to tie the game at one.
The Hawks would break the tie in the top of the fifth inning
with a four run rally, and the lead expanded to 7-1 in the top of
the seventh when Saint Anselm added tagged on two more runs.
The victory was sealed in the top of the eighth inning when the
Hawks went on a seven-run rally to bring the score to 14-1.
Pace showed some life in the bottom of the ninth when a
Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton)
single added on the second and final run of the game
for the Setters.
In game two, the bats were silenced until Saint Anselm's
TJ Murphy hit a three-run home run to get the Hawks on the board.
Saint Anselm would make the lead 4-0 in the fourth, and Pace would
get on the board with a run in the fifth, after Mike
Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) singled home a run.
The Hawks came back with a four run sixth inning, which
the Setters followed up with a three-run seventh inning.
Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
drove in the first run on a single, Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot)
(Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) scored the second run of the
inning on an throwing error, and Torrello doubled home the third
run of the inning.
Sterlacci drove home a run in the eighth to bring the score to
8-5, but an additional run in the ninth sealed the sweep for the
Hawks.
Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford, CT/Stamford)
(4-3) was the starter for game one going seven innings allowing
seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, with three walks, and
strikeouts.
Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren
Regional) (0-6) started game two of the twin bill going 5
2/3 innings giving up eight run on ten hits to go with four
strikeouts.
The Setters will return to action tomorrow for another
doubleheader against conference foe Assumption College at noon in
Worcester, Massachusetts.
