Box Score PACE LOSES IN 11 INNINGS TO
YELLOW JACKETS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Pace University's baseball team lost a
late lead to fall to the American International College Yellow
Jackets by a score of 6-5 in 11 innings. The Setters fall to 5-12
overall, and 1-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow
Jackets improve to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play this
season.
The Setters broke out to an early 2-0 lead in the second
inning after Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick, NY/Warwick
Valley) scored on a fielding error by the Yellow
Jackets' shortstop, and Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff,
NY/North Shore) scored on a wild pitch.
The Setters would tag on another run in the fifth inning on a
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan
Regional) single.
The Yellow Jackets would break their silence in the eighth
inning with a run, and then followed up with two more runs in the
top half of the ninth to bring the game to extra innings.
American International would strike again in the top of the
eleventh with three runs to gain a 6-3 advatage.
The Setters put up a final effort in the bottom half of the
eleventh after Chris Spatkoski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) singled in a run, and Dammann hit a sacrifice fly
to drive in another run, but the deficit was too much for Pace to
overcome.
Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington)
was the starter for the game, pitching eight innings allowing only
one run. Camastro struck out six against the Yellow Jackets.
The Setters will return to action on tomorrow when they face off
against Concordia College at 3 pm in a non-conference game at
Finnerty Field.
