Box Score SETTERS EARN FIRST NE-10 WIN
OF SEASON OVER YELLOW JACKETS
SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Pace University baseball team earned its
second victory in a row over the Yellow Jackets of American
International College 5-3, in Northeast-10 Conference action. The
Setters are now 5-11 overall, and 1-4 in the NE-10, while the
Yellow Jackets fall to 3-10 overall, and 0-3 in conference play.
The bats were silent in the first four innings of action, with
the Setters breaking the silence in the top of the fifth inning.
Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore)
would start a rally with a one out walk. After an error brought
Chaputian to third, he would score on a second American
International error. Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) would drive home teammate Michael
Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) on the first of
three hits for Spatkowski on the afternoon.
With the score 2-0, a two out double by Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire)
(Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) would drive home Spatkowski and
Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) for the final
two runs of a four-run fifth inning.
American International would strike back in the bottom of the
sixth inning, by putting three runs on the board to make the score
4-3.
In the top of the eighth, Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) would score the fifth and final
run for the Setters after hitting a leadoff double, and scoring on
a one out error by the Yellow Jackets.
Junior Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford,
CT/Stamford) is given the win, and is now 2-2 on the
season. Sciarretta pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (two
earned), with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison)
finished the game for the Setters, pitching two innings for his
third save of the season. Luongo allowed one hit and struck out
four in relief.
The Setters return to action on Thursday March, 25 for a rematch
against the Yellow Jackets of American International College at
3:30 p.m. at Pace's Finnerty Field.
