Box Score 2 SETTERS SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH
CHARGERS
SUNDBERG TOSSES THREE-HIT SHUTOUT IN GAME TWO WIN
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Pace University's baseball team lost
the first game of a doubleheader to the Chargers of Dominican 13-3,
but came back to split the games by winning 2-0 in the second game
of the afternoon. The Setters go to 4-11 overall after the twin
bill, while the Chargers are now 6-5 overall this season.
The Setters broke out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the
first after a run scored on a throwing error.
A three-run rally by the Chargers in the top of the second put
Dominican in a 3-1 lead.
Pace bounced back in the bottom half of the second with another
run from a single to center field by Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford,
CT/Westhill) to make the score 3-2.
Dominican would maintain the lead throughout, eventually
increasing it to 5-3. However, the Chargers put the game away in
the seventh inning with an eight-run rally to end with the 10 run
win.
The second game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel
throughout. Pace would break the silence in the fourth inning when
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to
score the game's first run.
Dammann would provide more run support in the sixth with about
sacrifice fly ball this time to right field to make the score 2-0
and to seal the victory.
Game one was started by Richard Sullivan (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk,
CT/Norwalk) who went two innings, giving up three runs
(zero earned), on two hits, and walking two. Sullivan is now 0-1 on
the season.
Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) was the
starter for game two, pitching seven shutout innings for the
complete game. Sundberg gave up three hits, along with striking out
one and walking one. He is now 2-0 this season.
The Setters will return to action on Tuesday, March 23 when they
hit the road to take on NE-10 opponent American International
College at 3:30 pm in Springfield, Massachusetts.
