Box Score 2 SETTERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO
SKYHAWKS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters dropped a pair of conference
games to the Stonehill College Skyhawks. The Skyhawks took game one
by a 10-9 score in a eleven innings, as well as winning the second
game by a score of 11-4. Pace falls to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the
Northeast-10 Conference this season, while Stonehill improves to
5-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Despite the losses, the Setters were led by the spectacular play
of freshman Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick, NY/Warwick
Valley) who was 5-for-9 hitting on the day which including
three runs batted in, and three runs scored in game one of the
twinbill.
In the first game, the Skyhawks gained an early lead after
getting a run across in the top of the second inning. After
Stonehill made the score 2-0 in the next frame, Pace would get on
the board with a run from Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff,
NY/North Shore) who scored on a ground out.
Stonehill would tag on three more runs over the next four
innings to make the lead 5-1 in the middle of the seventh inning,
and the Setters would chip away at that lead with a run in the
bottom of the seventh.
The Setters would strike in the bottom of the eighth with a
five-run rally which included a three-run double by Martineson to
make the score 7-5.
The Skyhawks would counter with a four-run rally in the top of
the ninth to gain the 9-7 lead, but the Setters would not go down
without a fight scoring two runs in the bottom half of the ninth to
tie things up at nine. It would be a scoreless game in the tenth,
but the Skyhawks would pull away for the game
Stonehill kept the offensive attack going in the second game of
the doubleheader, with the Skyhawks scoring five runs in the top of
the first frame. While the Setters scored three runs over the next
three innings to close the gap, the Skyhawks pushed away with a run
in the fourth, and another five-run rally in the sixth to seal the
win.
Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington)
was the starter in game one, lasting six innings and giving up four
runs (three earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.
Kyle Henriksen (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) received
the loss in game one after pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief.
Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) started
the second game of the day, allowing six runs, on six hits, with
five walks, and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
The Setters return to action tomorrow when they go head to head
against the Chargers of Dominican College in a non-conference
doubleheader starting at noon.
