Box Score SETTERS LOSE CONFERENCE
OPENER TO OWLS 6-3
NEW HAVEN, CT- The Pace University baseball team fell to the
Owls of Southern Connecticut State University 6-3 this afternoon in
the Setters' Northeast-10 Conference opener for the 2010
season. The Setters fall to 3-7 overall on the season and 0-1 in
conference play, while the Owls improve to 7-4-1 overall, and 1-0
in conference play.
Southern Connecticut would strike first with a four run rally in
the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning,
the Owls would expand their lead with two more runs to give
themselves a 6-0 lead.
From here the Setters played catch up, and would finally get on
the scoreboard in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded,
Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) who
scored, after Christopher Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) was plunked with a pitch.
With the bases still juiced, senior Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire)
(Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) would fly out to center scoring
Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) from third on
the tag up to make the score 6-2.
The Setters would put up on more run in the game after
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) flew out to center field to bring home
JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) on the
sacrifice. Unfortunately the lead was too much for the Setters to
overcome losing by three.
Junior Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford,
CT/Stamford) is given the loss after allowing six runs
(five earned) in five innings, on four hits, two walks and three
strikeouts to drop to 1-2 on the season.
The Setters return to action tomorrow in a rematch against the
Southern Connecticut State University Owls for a 3:30 p.m. first
pitch.
