WITH WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
SETTERS GET FIRST ROUND BYE; AWAIT WINNER OF UMASS

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters ended their regular season with
stifling defense, limiting the Yellow Jackets of American
International College 30.2% shooting, in a 53-38 Pace victory. The
Setters jumped to #3 in the latest NCAA East Region Poll and have
clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference
Tournament. The Setters improve to 21-6 overall and 18-4 in the
NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-16 and 9-13 in
conference play.
American International took an early 11-5 lead over the Setters
six minutes into the game. Pace answered with an 18-6 run as the
Setters rained triples with Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor)
(Windsor, CT/Windsor), Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern), and Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor,
NY/Cornwall) each connected from down town to put Pace up
23-17 with 3:36 left in the first half. The Setters would hold off
a late Yellow Jacket rally to lead 24-22 at the break.
The Setters turned up the defense in the second half, limited
the Yellow Jackets to 24% over the final 20 minutes of play. Pace
also pulled away to start the half, using a 19-7 over the first
seven and half minutes to take a commanding 43-29 lead with 12:30
remaining in the second half. The Setters would cruise to the
finish, pushing their lead to as much as 18 before winning 53-38
over American International.
The Setters were led by Losey's 13 points, eight rebounds and
three assists. Huggins finished with 12 points and eight rebounds,
while Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) also grabbed eight boards.
Pace returns to action on Tuesday, March 2 in the Northeast-10
Conference Tournament Quaterfinals at 7 pm at the Goldstein Fitness
Center on Pace's Pleasantville campus. The Setters will face the
winner of the #7 vs. #10 first round game, which features the
Yellow Jackets of American International against the River Hawks of
UMass Lowell, which takes place on Sunday February 28 at 1 pm at
UMass Lowell.
