WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SURVIVES OT THRILLER OVER NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The Setters rallied in the second half to tie New Haven in the final seconds before pulling away on overtime in a 63-58 victory to remain unbeaten on the season. Pace improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Chargers fall to 2-4 and 1-4 in conference play.

The first half was a back and forth clash as the Chargers led early by four points. The Setters rallied and eventually built a seven point lead at 17-12 with four and a half minutes left in the opening period. New Haven would chip away and connected on a basket with seven seconds left to knot the score at 21 at halftime.

The second half became a story of runs as New Haven opened the first four and a half minutes with a 12-4 run to pull ahead 33-25. The Setters responded with a 15-1 run as Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) and Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) each hit triples in the rally. Connolly added a lay-up, while Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) scored four points to lead the Setters back. Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) capped the run with a free throw at the 5:26 mark as Pace took back the lead at 40-34.

New Haven use a 10-0 spurt to retake the lead at 44-40 with 3:08 left in the game. Pace rallied to tie the score at 44 and the teams would trade points down the stretch. The Setters would hang around as Huggins hit 2-of-2 from the free throw line with 26 seconds left, while Shields would force an extra period as she went 2-for-2 at the line with 13 seconds left in regulation.

The Setters would take over in overtime as Huggins scored eight points in a Setters 10-3 run to open the extra period. Huggins hit a pair of baskets, while converting a three-point play with 1:38 left in overtime as Pace took a 58-51 lead. Pace would hit their free throws down the stretch as Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) went 3-for-4 and Emily Trapani (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) hit 2-for-2 from the line in the final minute of play to hold off the Chargers and secure the win.

Pace would led by Huggins who finished with 15 points and four rebounds. Welsome chipped in with 13 points and four boards, while Shields tallied 10 points seven rebounds and four assists.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, December 7 when Pace will host American International College in a Northeast-10 clash at 5:30 pm on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
