SETTERS TO BIG NON-CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER
ADELPHI 5-3
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace
University baseball team pounded out 10 hits on the day to help
lead them to a huge non-conference win over the Panthers of Adelphi
University 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The
Setters are now 7-5-1 at Finnerty Field this season.
The win improves Pace to 12-18-1 for the season, while the loss
will drop the Panthers to 17-7 for the year.
The Setters offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning
with Pace trailing 1-0 in the game. With one out in the inning
Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) started
the inning for Pace by reaching base on a wild pitch after striking
out. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley)
followed up with a bunt single down the third base line. The bases
would then be loaded after Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford,
CT/Waterford) was hit by a pitch. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
(Trumbull, CT/Trumbull), who has been on fire for Pace in
the last week, singled to shortstop to tie the game at 1-1.
Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) hit an RBI
groundout later on in the inning to put Pace up 2-1 after five
innings.
This is the point in the game where Pace starter Michael
Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (2-1) would depart as
he pitched five solid innings giving up one run on three hits. He
also struck out four, and walked three in his outing.
The Setters would add on some insurance in the bottom of the
sixth inning scoring three runs on three hits to make the score 5-1
in favor of Pace. Conrad had a big two RBI single in the inning,
and red hot Liscinsky hit an RBI single as well to cap off the
scoring in the sixth. Liscinsky is hitting .621 (18-for-29) in the
month of April.
The Pace pitching staff had a little trouble closing out the
game in the ninth inning as Adelphi would try to rally.
Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) came in though,
and shut the door on the Panthers to earn his second save of the
year for the Setters.
Pace is back in action tomorrow as they host conference rival
Southern New Hampshire University. The game is scheduled to start
at 3:30 p.m.
