NON-CONFERENCE TILT WITH ADELPHI 7-1
GARDEN CITY, NY - The Pace University baseball team dropped a
late season non-conference matchup to the Panthers of Adelphi
University, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at William J. Bonomo Field.
The loss will drop Pace to 18-26-1 for the season, while the win
will improve Adelphi to 25-13 on the year.
The Panthers struck first in the bottom of the first inning
without even getting a hit as they played small ball, and also
benefited from a key Setter miscue, to take an early 1-0 lead.
Pace bounced back in the top of the third inning using a couple
extra base hits to tie the game. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) started the inning off with a one out double
to left field. Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights.
NY/Lakeland) followed that up with a RBI double of his own
to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
The tie would be short lived as Adelphi got to Pace starter
Michael Mastrogiovanni (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) (Glen Rock, NJ/ Glen Rock)
for a run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. The
Panthers weren't done as they widened their lead in the bottom of
the fourth getting three runs on four hits off Mastrogiovanni to
take a 5-1lead after four.
Mastrogiovanni went three and a third innings on the day giving
up five runs on seven hits. He struck out none, and walked one in
the outing.
Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore)
had two of the six Setter hits on the day as Pace had no answers
for Adelphi starter Jason Intelisano.
Pace will be back in action tomorrow as they will host another
non-conference opponent in Caldwell College. The game is scheduled
to start at 3:30 p.m.
