Box Score BROWN PROVIDES RELIEF AS
SETTERS HOLD ON FOR 3-2 VICTORY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University baseball team picked up
a huge NE-10 Conference win over the Skyhawks of Stonehill College
3-2 on Thursday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The Setters are now
10-6-1 at Finnerty Field this season.
The win will improve Pace to 15-21-1 for the season, and 9-11 in
the NE-10 Conference. The loss drops the Skyhawks to 17-14 for the
year, and 9-8 in conference play.
Pace got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning
as the Setters exploded for one run on four hits in the inning to
take a 1-0 lead. Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson Valley, NY/
Lakeland) drove in the lone run in the inning with an RBI
single to right field driving in Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag,
NY/Arlington).
With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third
inning the Setters offense came through again as Vinny
Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) singled
with two outs to start the inning. Dammann then got into scoring
position by stealing second base. Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) Yorktown
Heights, NY/Lakeland) stepped up to the plate next for the
Setters, and drilled an RBI double down the left field line to put
Pace in the lead at 2-1 after three innings.
Pace starter Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) (Farmingville, NY/Sachem
East) couldn't hold the lead as Stonehill came right back
to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. This was
the point where DeMeo's day was over as he went three innings
giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out three, and walked
four in a no decision.
Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) went on
to break the 2-2 tie all by himself in the bottom of the fifth
inning. He led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. Liscinsky
then went on to steal second base, and advanced to third on a fly
ball by Cotone. Liscinksy dashed home on a wild pitch by the
Stonehill starter to give Pace a 3-2 lead.
That was all Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk)
(2-1) needed as he was brilliant in relief going six shutout
innings. He gave up only two hits, while striking out four to give
Pace the 3-2 win.
The Setters will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 as they
will travel to Waltham, MA to take on Bentley University. The first
game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
