ALIMONTI'S TWO-RUN THIRD INNING DOUBLE KEYS SETTERS
OFFENSE
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford,
CT/Stamford) tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits,
leading the Setters to a 5-2 win over the Chargers of the
University of New Haven. Pace improves to 14-20-1 and 8-10 in
conference play, while New Haven falls to 12-13 and 8-9 in the
NE-10.
The Setters got thing rolling in the second as Tyler
Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) sparked a two-out rally
with a single, while Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island,
NY/Longwood) drew a walk. Steve Sterlacci
(Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) singled through the right side to
score Hart and moved to second on throw home. Denis
Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) ripped a double
to center, driving in Wright and Sterlacci for a 3-0 Setter lead.
New Haven would get on the board in the fourth, scoring an
unearned run, but the Setters would answer in the fifth on a
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) sacrifice fly. The Chargers would add a run in
the seventh, but reliever Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk,
CT/Norwalk) would retire the two batters he faced in the
inning to close the door on New Haven. The Setters would add an
insurance run in the eighth as pinch hitter Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
(Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led off with a single. He moved to
third base on back-to-back sacrifice bunts. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley)
(Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) lined a single to right to
drive in Liscinsky. The Setters bullpen was brilliant as Brown and
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) combined
for 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Sciarretta.
For Pace, Sciarretta (2-0) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two
unearned runs on four hits, while striking out two. Brown tossed 1
1/3 innings, allowing three hits, while Luongo retired all four
batters he faced to pick up his team leading third save of the
season.
For New Haven, Vince Lehman (Groton, MA) pitched six innings,
allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out two,
dropping his record to 3-2 on the season.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when they
travel to Easton, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against
Stonehill College at 3:30 pm.
