Box Score PACE FALLS TO SOUTHERN
CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
NEW HAVEN, CT- The Pace University
baseball team dropped a tough Northeast-10 Conference battle to the
Owls of Southern Connecticut, 11-6, on Tuesday afternoon at The
Ballpark at SCSU.
The loss will drop Pace to 9-14 on the season, and 4-5 in the
NE-10. The win will improve the Owls to 8-10 on the year, and 3-1
in conference play.
The Setters got on the board first as they put up two early runs
in the top of the first inning. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) led things off with one out as he singled to
center. Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) stepped up next, and hit a double to deep right
field scoring Liscinsky from first to make the score 1-0. With two
outs in the inning, and Dammann still on second base,
Joe Cotone (Yorktown Heights,
NY/Lakeland) came up to the plate. Cotone hit a clutch RBI
single to center field that scored Dammann to make the score 2-0.
Pace starter Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) (Lagrangeville,
NY/Arlington) gave the lead right back to Southern
Connecticut as the Owls scored four runs on four hits in the bottom
of the first to make the score 4-2.
The Setters would rally scoring four straight unanswered runs,
one in the second and three in the third, to make the score 6-4 in
favor of Pace heading into the bottom of the third. Cotone was a
big reason for the offensive surge in the early innings as he went
three for four in the game with an RBI, and a run scored.
Southern Connecticut then went on to make their rally getting to
Camastro again in the bottom of the third for another run. Camastro
only went two and two thirds innings allowing five runs on eight
hits. The Owls then went on to touch up reliever Richard
Sullivan (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (1-1) for four more runs in
the bottom of the fourth to complete their rally. When the dust
settled the Owls now had a comfortable 9-6 lead after four innings.
The Owls went on to add a couple more runs in the later innings
as they went on to win the game 11-6.
Pace will be back in action tomorrow as they come back home to
take on non-conference foe Dominican College. The game is scheduled
to start at 3:00 p.m.
