Box Score SETTERS DROP 12 INNING
HEARTBREAKER TO THE COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE 3-2
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University
baseball dropped a tough NE-10 Conference matchup to in-state rival
Saint Rose College 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The
Setters are now 6-2-1 at Finnerty Field this season.
The loss drops the Setters to 8-12-1 for the season, and 3-3 in
the Northeast-10 Conference. The win will improve the Golden
Knights to 6-12 on the year, and 2-3 in conference play.
The Setters got on the board first in this game scoring a run in
the bottom of the first inning without even recording a hit.
Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland)
reached to start the inning on a fielding error by the Golden
Knights shortstop. Alimonti then advanced to second on a wild
pitch. With Alimonti on third now with one out Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood)
(Middle Island, NY/Longwood) hit an RBI groundout to
second base to put Pace up 1-0.
The Golden Knights finally got to Pace's starting pitcher
Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) in the
top of the sixth inning putting two runs up on the board to take a
2-1 lead. Dayton went five and two thirds innings giving up five
hits, and two runs (one earned). Dayton also struck out four, and
walked two solid outing by the Setters ace.
Pace bounced right back in the bottom half of the sixth inning
tying the score back up at 2-2. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) singled with one out to start the Setter
rally. Wright then managed a walk to put runners on first and
second with one out. With two outs now in the inning, and runners
on second and third, Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) stepped into the box. Dammann hit
a clutch single to left field to tie the score at two, and it could
have been more but Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights,
NY/Lakeland) was thrown out at the plate to keep the game
tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh.
Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) pitched three
and a third solid scoreless innings of relief for the Setters to
help keep them in the game heading into the later innings.
Saint Rose came through in the top of the 12th inning
scoring on a pass ball to take a 3-2 lead.
Pace had a chance to tie in the bottom of the 12th
inning as they had a runner on third with two outs but
Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) popped
up to first base to end the game.
The Setters are back in action tomorrow as they will travel to
Albany, NY to play a doubleheader against The College of Saint
Rose. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
