Box Score SETTERS WIN THIRD
STRAIGHT WITH 4-2 WIN OVER AMERICAN
INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University baseball team continued
their solid play at home on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-2 victory
over the Yellow Jackets of American International College. The
Setters are now 6-1-1 at Finnerty Field this season.
The win improves the Setters to 8-11-1 for the season, and 3-2
in the Northeast-10 Conference. The loss will drop the Yellow
Jackets to 2-14 on the year, and 0-4 in conference play.
The Setters got off to a quick start in the game thanks to their
patience at the plate early on. Pace drew four walks in the first
two innings which helped the Setters take an early 2-0 lead.
Pace got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as
Richard Sullivan (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) walked to
lead off the inning. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill
Valley) followed up with another walk to put runners on
first and second with one out. Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson
Valley, NY/Lakeland) then drove in the first run of the
day with a RBI single through the left side to make the score 1-0.
The Setters added on another run later on in the inning on a
throwing error by the Yellow Jackets catcher to make the score 2-0
after two innings.
The Yellow Jackets fought their way back into the game, and
eventually tied it up at 2-2 after six innings. This would be the
part of the game where starting pitcher Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East)
(Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) would depart as well. DeMeo
went five and two thirds innings giving up two earned runs, and
four hits. DeMeo also struck out six, and walked three.
Pace broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh using the
long ball, and a key extra base hit. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle
Island, NY/Longwood) led off the inning with a solo
homerun to right field giving Pace the lead back at 3-2. Later on
in the inning Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington)
came up with a man on second with one out. Hart dropped in a clutch
RBI double into left field to give the Setters a little more
breathing room at 4-2.
Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison)
helped shut the door for Pace pitching two shutout innings to close
out the game. Luongo picked up his first save of the season
wrapping up the Setters third win in a row.
Pace will have a couple days off before returning to action on
Saturday, March 28. The Setters will travel to Albany, NY to play
conference rival Saint Rose College in a doubleheader. The first
game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
