SETTERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 4-2 WIN OVER AMERICAN
INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University baseball team continued their solid play at home on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets of American International College. The Setters are now 6-1-1 at Finnerty Field this season.

The win improves the Setters to 8-11-1 for the season, and 3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The loss will drop the Yellow Jackets to 2-14 on the year, and 0-4 in conference play.

The Setters got off to a quick start in the game thanks to their patience at the plate early on. Pace drew four walks in the first two innings which helped the Setters take an early 2-0 lead.

Pace got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Richard Sullivan (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) walked to lead off the inning. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) followed up with another walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) then drove in the first run of the day with a RBI single through the left side to make the score 1-0. The Setters added on another run later on in the inning on a throwing error by the Yellow Jackets catcher to make the score 2-0 after two innings.

The Yellow Jackets fought their way back into the game, and eventually tied it up at 2-2 after six innings. This would be the part of the game where starting pitcher Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) would depart as well. DeMeo went five and two thirds innings giving up two earned runs, and four hits. DeMeo also struck out six, and walked three.

Pace broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh using the long ball, and a key extra base hit. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) led off the inning with a solo homerun to right field giving Pace the lead back at 3-2. Later on in the inning Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) came up with a man on second with one out. Hart dropped in a clutch RBI double into left field to give the Setters a little more breathing room at 4-2.

Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) helped shut the door for Pace pitching two shutout innings to close out the game. Luongo picked up his first save of the season wrapping up the Setters third win in a row.

Pace will have a couple days off before returning to action on Saturday, March 28. The Setters will travel to Albany, NY to play conference rival Saint Rose College in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
