SOFTBALL GOES UNDEFEATED ON
DAY ONE OF HAMPTON TOURNAMENT
HAMPTON, VA- The Pace softball team posted a pair of victories
on the opening day of the Hampton Tournament, defeating
Barton in the opener 7-3, while dominating Queensborough Community
College 25-0 in the second game of the day. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
(Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) went 3-for-4 with
three runs scored against Barton, while Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet)
(Assonet, MA/Apponequet) had three RBIs in the game,
blasting a first inning two-run homerun. The Setters improve to 3-0
on the season.
Barton got on the board scoring a run in their half of the first
inning. The Setters answered in the bottom of the inning on
back-to-back homeruns. Pane led off with a single and scored on
Hurley's blast, while Larissa Porcelli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) (Yorktown Heights,
NY/Yorktown) following Hurley's shot with a solo homerun
to make the score 3-1 in favor of Pace. Pace would tack two more in
the second as Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) (Houston, TX/Klein
Collins) reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second
on Pane's single. Freshman Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy ) (New Windsor,
NY/Newburgh Free) continued her hot hitting this season as
she ripped a two-run single up the middle.
The Setters would add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as
they held on for a 7-3 victory. On the mound, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper)
(Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (2-0) tossed a complete
game, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out five.
Pace dominated the second game against Queensborugh College as
the Setters pounded out 18 hits, using a 15-run second inning to
cruise to a five-inning 25-0 victory. Bell went 5-for-5 in the game
with five RBIs, whule Hurley and Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Woodhaven,
NY/Archbishop Molloy) each went 3-for-4.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 21 for day two
of the Hampton University Tournament.
