SETTERS DROP TWIN BILL TO #16 BARRY

MIAMI SHORES, FL- The Pace baseball team lost a doubleheader to the Bucs of Barry University, falling 19-8 in the opener, and dropping the nightcap 2-1. The Setters drop to 4-7-1 on the season, while the Bucs improve to 19-2.

Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) went 3-for-5 in the double dip with a run scored, a double and a stolen base, including 2-for-2 in the opener.  In the first game, the Setters got on the board in the opening inning as Spatkowski scored on a ground-out double play.  Barry responded doing all their damage in the first four innings, scoring two in the first, six in the second and third, capped off by five run in the fourth.

Pace rallied with four runs in the sixth but fell short in the opener 19-8. Salvatore DePaola (East Meadow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (East Meadow, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (0-1) tossed two innings allowing 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits, while walking two and striking out one.

In the nightcap, Denis Alimonti (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) (Jefferson Valley, NY/Lakeland) led off the third inning with a single to center. Alimonti moved the second on a groundout and advanced to third on a passed ball. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) put the Setters in the lead 1-0 with a run scoring single to drive in Alimonti. The Bucs would tie the game in the third with a solo homerun and a sacrifice fly in the fifth to put Barry up 2-1. Pace had a runner in scoring position in the sixth but could not push the tying run across a dropped a tough 2-1 decision in the second game.

On the mound, Guiseppe Granito (Bronx, NY/Concordia College) tossed a six inning complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out two to drop to 0-2 on the season.

The teams wrap up their four-game series on Sunday, March 15 at Miami Shores, FL for a 6 pm game.
