Box Score DeMEO LEADS THE WAY
FOR PACE IN A SOLID 8-0 WIN OVER
CALDWELL COLLEGE
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University
baseball team capped off their three game home-stand this week with
a dominating 8-0 victory over the Cougars of Caldwell College at
Finnerty Field on Thursday evening.
The win will give the Setters a 2-0-1 mark on their three game
home-stand, and it moves them to 4-4-1 for the season. This was
Caldwell's first game of their season so the Cougars will fall to
0-1 with the loss.
The star of the game was starting pitcher Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East)
(Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) (1-1). DeMeo pitched six
and a third brilliant shutout innings of four hit ball for the win.
DeMeo struck out four, walked three in his masterful outing.
The Setter offense came out in full force as well today pounding
out 12 hits, and scoring eight runs in the win. The offense started
up in the bottom of the third as Denis Almonti (Jefferson
Valley, NY/Lakeland) led off the inning with a single to
right. JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley)
then stepped up with Almonti now on third base with no outs. Conrad
delivered a clutch single to right field to drive in the first Pace
run of the day making the score 1-0. With Conrad standing on first,
with still no outs in the inning, Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
(Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) doubled to left center to keep the
hits coming for the Setters. Conrad scored all the way around from
first base on the base knock to make the score 2-0 Pace.
Liscinsky was back at it again in the bottom of the fifth inning
as he singled to left field with one out. With two outs now in the
inning Liscinsky stole second base to get himself into scoring
position with Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) Yorktown Heights,
NY/Lakeland) at the plate. Cotone then doubled on the very
next pitch to drive in Liscinksy to push the Setter lead to 3-0
after five.
Steven D'Angelo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains) (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch
Plains) came in to relieve DeMeo with one out in the
sixth, and picked up right where DeMeo left off. D'Angelo pitched
two and two thirds shutout innings giving up only one hit, and
striking out five.
The Setters went on to add on more runs in the sixth, seventh,
and eighth to push the score to 8-0 after eight innings. The star
of the game offensively for Pace was Almonti who had three hits,
two RBI's, two runs scored, and two steals.
Pace will be back in action tomorrow as the Setters will travel
down to Florida to play Barry University for a four game series.
The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
