Box Score PACE GETS BACK TO
WINNING WAYS BY DOWNING MOLLOY 5-0
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University
baseball team just needed some good old fashioned home cooking to
get back on track as they beat the Lions of Molloy College 5-0 at
Finnerty Field on Tuesday evening.
The win improves Pace to 3-4 on the season, while the loss drops
Molloy to 6-2 for the year.
The first five innings of this game belonged to starting pitcher
Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington), and
the outstanding Setters defense. Camastro pitched five shutout
innings while only giving up four hits in a brilliant outing.
Camastro also hit two batters, walked one, and struck out three in
his outing. Camastro did have a lot of help from the Setter defense
as he got two tremendous plays to help keep his shutout intact. The
first play came when Camastro was in a jam in fourth with runners
on second and third with two outs. A ball was hit hard up the
middle and it deflected off second baseman JJ Conrad's (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley)
(Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) glove in the direction of
shortstop Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull).
Liscinsky dove, got up, and fired a bullet over to first base to
get the runner by a step to end the Lions threat in the fourth. The
second play came in the Molloy fifth as they had runners on first
and second with two outs. Robert LaRusso hit a ball that was
tailing towards the fence down the right field line when right
fielder Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North
Shore) came out of nowhere to make a great catch.
Chaputian then fell over the fence out of bounds but still managed
to hold on to the ball to end the Molloy threat, and get Camastro
out of another jam.
The bottom of the sixth is where the Pace offense finally
started to heat up on the cold Tuesday evening. Catcher
Steven Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) led off
the inning with a walk. Conrad then singled to shortstop to put
runners on first and second with one out. Left fielder Joe
Cotone Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland)
then came up with runners on first and third with two out. Cotone
singled to center scoring Sterlacci to make the score 1-0 Pace.
With runners now on first and second with two outs first baseman
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) came through with a two RBI double to center
field to make the score 3-0 now in favor of Pace.
The Setters went on to add two more runs in the bottom of the
eight inning to make the score 5-0 which was all Pace closer
Mike Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) would
need. Sciarretta pitched two and two thirds masterful innings
giving up only two hits and striking out one to pick up his second
save of the year.
Richard Sullivan (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) picked
up the win going one and a third innings to move his record to 1-0
on the year. Steven Stewart (0-1) picked up the loss for Molly
going six innings and giving up three runs.
Pace returns back to action tomorrow as they play host to
Concordia College right here at Finnerty Field. The game is
scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
