Box Score SETTERS WIN SIXTH IN A ROW
IN 76-67 VICTORY OVER NYACK
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY
/St. Peter's) led five Pace players in double figures as
the Setters defeated the Warriors of Nyack College 76-67 in
non-conference action. The Setters net their sixth victory in a row
to improve to 7-2 overall, while the Warriors fall to 4-5 on the
season.
The Setters and the Warriors were knotted at 12 just over five
minutes into the game before Pace used an 18-6 run to pull ahead
30-18 with 8:09 left in the opening half. The Setters would extend
their advantage to as much as 18 at 40-22 before taking a 43-27
into the break. Welsome led the Setters with eight points,
including a triple as the first half buzzer sounded.
Pace continued their double digit lead well into the second
half, leading by as much as 16 at 54-38 with 15:26 remaining in the
game. The Warriors would chip away at the Setter lead, slicing the
score to 63-55 with 7:35 left in the game. Pace would answer with a
10-2 burst over a three minute stretch as Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa)
(Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) hit a lay-up and
Welsome would knock down a trifecta. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor)
(Windsor, CT/Windsor) would convert a three-point play and
later capped the run with a lay-up to put Pace up 73-57 with 4:04
left in the game.
The Warriors would close the gap to six with 1:33 to go but
Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, CT/Cornwall Central)
went 2-for-2 at the line, while Huggins added a free throw in the
final minute as the Setters won going away 76-67.
For Pace, Welsome had an outstanding all-around game with 14
points seven assists, five rebounds and two steals, while shooting
5-for-9 overall and 3-for-6 from long range. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
(Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) added 13 points, while
Mooney finished with 11 points and four assists. Carol
Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Huggins each
netted 10 points, while Huggins grabbed a team-best eight caroms.
Cleary totaled six points, six rebounds and six assists as the
Setters had a balanced attack.
Pace returns to action on Monday, December 28 and 29 at the Pace
University Holiday Classic. The Setters will take on Bloomfield
College on Monday and Felician College on Tuesday. Both games will
tip-off at 6:00 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Pace's
Pleasantville campus.
