SETTERS FALL SHORT IN LOSS TO DOWLING

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace University women's basketball dropped their first game of the season to the Golden Lions of Dowling College 82-77 in non-conference action. The Setters fall to 1-1 overall, while the Golden Lions improve to 2-0 on the season.

Pace struggled out of the box, falling behind 13-6 with 11:36 left in the first half. Pace rally back to tied the game at 13 on an Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) three-pointer. Pace would start to get the offense going, relying on Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) and Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT Bristol Eastern) as both players scored eight points each for the half. The Setters would head into the break with a 32-28 halftime lead.

In the second half, Pace would hold a slim lead at 46-45 before the Golden Lions would rally with a 24-8 run over seven minutes to pull ahead 69-54 with 6:20 left in the game. The Setters would rally with 21-9 run to trail by three points capped by a Javadifar lay-up with 14 seconds left in the game. Dowling would keep the Setters at bay as the Golden Lions would connect on 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute of the game to secure a five points victory.

Pace would have four starters in double figures, with Losey and Javadifar both finishing with 13 points each. Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY St. John Villa) had a solid day finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) played solid off the bench, totaling 11 points. Freshman Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) saw her finish action in a Setter uniform, scoring eight points, as she connected on a pair of trifectas.

Pace returns to action on Tuesday November 24, when they travel to New Haven, CT for Northeast-10 Conference match-up against Southern Connecticut State for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
