Box Score SETTERS OUTPACE GREYHOUNDS
TO STAY IN SECOND PLACE
LOSEY'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE KEYS PACE VICTORY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters held off the Greyhounds of
Assumption College 54-51 in Northeast-10 Conference this evening.
Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead
Pace to victory, moving the Setters record to 8-3 overall and 5-2
in the NE-10, keeping the team in sole possession of second place.
The Greyhounds drop to 7-6 and 5-4 in conference play.
After trading baskets early in the game, Assumption jumped ahead
of the Setters on a three-point play by Molly Griffiths, giving the
Greyhounds a 9-7 advantage. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor,
CT/Windsor) connected on a trifecta on the ensuing Pace
possession putting the Setters back in the lead and initiating a
13-2 Pace run. Kristin Connolly's (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) triple at the 7:15 mark capped the run as the
Setters pushed ahead for a 20-11 lead. A late run by the Greyhounds
would slice the Setter lead to 26-23 heading into halftime.
Assumption would battle back in the second half, taking a brief
one-point lead at the 15:50 mark. From that point, the lead would
take hands seven more times and the score would be tied twice. The
Setters would pull ahead by five at 46-41 but the Greyhounds would
rally behind six straight free throws to take a one-point lead.
Shiesha McCollum (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville) (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville)
would connect on the a lay-up to put the Setters back ahead by one
with just over two and a half minutes left in the game.
As time ticked away, the Setters would head to the charity
stripe as Huggins and Losey would each go 2-for-2 from the line in
the final 30 seconds of the game to push the Setter lead to five
points. The Greyhounds refused to go quietly as Bethany Plassaki
would score on a lay-up and head to the line for a potential
three-point play with two seconds left in the game. Plasski would
miss the free throw but the ball went out of bounds off the Setters
setting up one final chance for the Greyhounds, down by three and
0.6 seconds on the clock. Plasski potential game-tying trifecta
fell short and the Setters would hold on for the win and stay in
sole possession of second place in the Northeast-10.
For the Setters, Connolly finished with 12 points and five
rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, while Huggins totaled
11 points and seven caroms. Brittany
Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) saw her
double-double streak snapped as she finished with six points and
nine rebounds in the game.
Pace returns to action on Thursday, January 8 when the Setters
will travel to Rindge, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference battle with
the Ravens of Franklin Pierce slated for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
