GOLDEN KNIGHTS DOWN SETTERS 68-52
ALBANY, NY- The Setters, ranked #8 in the latest NCAA Division
II Northeast Regional poll, dropped a Northeast-10 game to the
Golden Knights of Saint Rose 68-52 in Northeast-10 Conference
action at the Nolan Gymnasium today. The Setters drop their overall
record to 12-7 and 9-6 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights
improve to 13-7 and 8-7 in conference play.
Saint Rose took advantage of poor first half shooting by the
Setters, building a 20-7 lead midway through the opening period.
The Golden Knights would push their lead to ad much as 16 at 28-12
with just over five minutes left in the half, taking a 36-22 lead
into the break. The Setters shot 5-for-22 (22.7%) compared to the
Golden Knights 12-for-32 (37.5%) in the opening half.
Pace hung tough in the second half, trimming their deficit to 10
points as Brittany Shields (Cold Spring,
NY/Haldane) scored the Setters' first six points of the
final period. Brittany Huggins' (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor,
CT/Windsor) jumper with just over 15 minutes left in the
game cut the game down to 40-30 in favor of the Golden Knights.
Pace would get the game to as few as seven with 7:33 left in the
game before the Golden Knights quickly pushed their lead back to 13
points. The Setters would only get as close as nine points the rest
of the way as the Golden Knights would close out the final three
and half minutes of play on 9-2 run and win going away by 16
points.
For Pace, Shields led the way with 23 points and six rebounds,
while shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 9-for-10 from the
charity stripe. Huggins grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while
Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
came off the bench to chip in 11 points on 8-for-8 shooting from
the foul line. The Setters shot 14-for-41 (34.1%) from the field,
while the Golden Knight shot 23-of-61 (37.7%) for the game.
For Saint Rose, Lauren Revesz led the Golden Knights with 17
points, seven rebounds and four steals. Suzana Sormaz came off the
bench to contribute 16 points, while Dana Brown and Elizabeth
Buckely each chipped in 10 points. Ashley Anderson led Saint Rose
with a game-high nine boards.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, February 4, when the
Setters travel to Syracuse, NY to take on the Dolphins of Le Moyne
College in a Northeast-10 match-up scheduled for a 5:30 p.m.
