MANCHESTER, NH- The Setters dropped their second straight
Northeast-10 Conference game as they fell to the Penmen of Southern
New Hampshire 71-59. The Setters drop to 10-6 and 7-5 in conference
play, while the Penmen improve to 11-7 and 6-7 in the NE-10.
In a see-saw early action, Brittany
Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) put the Setters
up two at 12-10 with a pair of free throws. Southern New Hampshire
would rally to take a five point lead. A triple by Taylor
Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) slice the game back to
two points at 17-15 with 11:31 left in the first half. The Penmen
would push the back to as much as nine and took a 36-29 lead into
the break.
The second half started off promising for the Setters as baskets
by Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's)and Shields got Pace to within three at 36-33 with
just under 17 minutes remaining in the game. The Penmen would rally
with a 19-8 run to push the 55-41 midway through the final period.
The Setters would get as close as nine the rest of the way, but the
Penmen held on for the 12-point win.
For Pace, Shields recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10
rebounds, while Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor,
CT/Windsor) came off the bench to total 15 points.
The Setters return to action on Sunday, January 25 when they
will travel to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack College in a
Northeast-10 Conference game scheduled for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
