Box Score SECOND HALF RALLY POWERS SETTERS TO FIFTH WIN IN THEIR LAST SIX
KEEGAN'S 15 POINTS LEADS WELL-BALANCED SETTER ATTACK
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters stormed back in the second half to overtake the River Hawks of UMass Lowell 68-54 in Northeast-10 action. Courtney Keegan (North Arlington, NJ/Queen of Peace) (North Arlington, NJ/Queen of Peace) led four Setters in double figures, finishing with 15 points in the game, to improve to Setters record to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the NE-10. The River Hawks drop to 6-8 and 3-6 in conference play.
The River Hawks took advantage of poor Setter shooting early on as UMass Lowell would build a 21-10 lead midway through the first half. Pace battled back by scoring in the paint as Shiesha McCollum (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville) (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville) scored six points in the paint, while Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) connected on a triple and lay-up to rally Pace to a 29-21 deficit with just over three minutes left in the half. The Setters would close the half on a 9-3 run to trail 32-30 at the break. Trifectas by Keegan and Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) sandwiched around an old-school three-point play by Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) rallied the Setters to a two-point deficit heading into the break.
The Setters came out firing to start the second half as Keegan would nail a three-pointer three seconds in the final period putting the Setters up one and starting an 18-4 run, that saw Pace's two-point halftime deficit flip to a 12-point lead at the 14 minute mark. Pace would push their advantage to 14 points with 7 1/2 minutes to play until a mini 6-0 River Hawks run closed the gap to 58-50 with just five minutes left in the game. A three-pointer by Keegan less than one minute later put the Setter lead back into double-figures and the Setters would hold another late UMass Lowell run to notch their fifth win in their last six games.
Keegan's 15 points led the way for the Setters, while Shields totaled 13 points and seven rebounds on the day. Mooney continued her solid play this season as she tallied 12 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, while McCollum chipped in 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
For UMass Lowell, Jen Valente led the River Hawks with 19 points (15 in the first half), while Antonnea Robinson was the only other player to notch double figures with 14 points. Revital Carmon came off the bench to post a game-high nine rebounds.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, January 17 when the Setters will host the Falcons of Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action slated for a 1:30 pm tip-off at Pace's Pleasantville campus.Â
