PLEASANTVILLE, NY- James Hammel (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) (North Caldwell, NJ/West
Essex) netted three goals as the Setters dominated the
Greyhounds of Assumption College 7-1 in Northeast-10 Conference
action at Pace Field in Pleasantville. The Setters improve to 5-3
overall and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds drop to 2-7 and
remain winless in conference play at 0-5.
Assumption got on the board first as Nicholas Violandi (Duxbury,
MA) gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter and
took the lead into the second. It was all Pace the rest of the way
as the Setters tuned up the offense and stepped up on defense.
Jake Sheppard (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/East Victoria) (Brunswick East, Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia/Northcote) got the equalizer less than a minute
into the second quarter, while Hammel scored three in a row over
second and third quarters to give Pace a 4-1 lead. Ryan
Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) netted a pair of scores
later in the third and early fourth, while Sheppard posted his
second of the day with 8:14 left in the game as the Setters cruised
to their second straight win.
The Setters outshot the Greyhounds 50-13 and picked up more
ground balls 39-30.
In net, Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst,
NY/Lindenhurst) turned in another spectacular performance,
recording eight saves on the day.
Pace returns to action when on Wednesday, April 9 when they will
host Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College at
4:00 pm at Pace Field in Pleasantville.
