SOFTBALL SWEEPS
ASSUMPTION
WORCESTER, MA - Trish Allutto (Matawan,
NJ/Matawan) blasted a game-tying solo homerun in the
opener, while Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levtittown, PA/Harry S
Truman) went 3-for-3 with a homerun and four RBIs in the
nightcap to lead the Setters to a 4-1 and 4-2 sweep over the
Greyhounds of Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Pace improves to 19-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play, while
the Greyhounds drop to 9-15 and 5-9 in the NE-10.
In the opener, the game remained scoreless until the fourth when
the Greyhounds pushed across the first run. The Setters knotted the
game in the fifth as Allutto's solo shot drew Pace even at one
apiece. The Setters took control in the sixth as Kim
Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) led off with a
single and Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) (Spring, TX/Klein Collins)
drew a walk. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal
Spellman) would single to score Troiano and an error by
the left fielder would allow Dague to score on the play, giving
Pace a 3-1. Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills,
CO/Conifer) singled to score Pane and the Setters would
hold on in the final two innings top take game one.
On the hill for the Setters, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant
Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed a five-hitter, allowing one
unearned run and struck out one to move her record over the .500
mark at 8-7.
In the nightcap, the Setters got on the board in the first
inning as Pane led off with walk and Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet)
(Assonet,
MA/Apponequet) singled and stole second
to put runners at second and third. Kinyon's double to left center
score Pane and Hurley for a 2-0 Setter lead. Pace would tack on a
run in the third as Kinyon's infield hit would allow Pane to cross
the plate with the third run of the game. Kinyon's solo homerun in
the sixth gave Pace a 4-0 lead. Assumption would not go quietly as
they would slice the Setter lead in half, scoring a pair of runs in
the bottom of the sixth but reliever Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy)
(Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) would get the final
out of the sixth and tossed a scoreless seventh to complete the
sweep.
For Pace, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton, MA/Norton)
started, tossing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits,
while fanning three, to improve to 4-3 on the season Rescigno
allowed two hits over the final 1 1/3 innings, to earn her second
save of the season.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, April 19 when they
will travel to Rindge, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference
doubleheader against Franklin Pierce scheduled for 12:00 pm first
pitch.
