SOFTBALL SWEEPS ASSUMPTION

WORCESTER, MA - Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) blasted a game-tying solo homerun in the opener, while Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levtittown, PA/Harry S Truman) went 3-for-3 with a homerun and four RBIs in the nightcap to lead the Setters to a 4-1 and 4-2 sweep over the Greyhounds of Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 19-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play, while the Greyhounds drop to 9-15 and 5-9 in the NE-10.

In the opener, the game remained scoreless until the fourth when the Greyhounds pushed across the first run. The Setters knotted the game in the fifth as Allutto's solo shot drew Pace even at one apiece. The Setters took control in the sixth as Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) led off with a single and Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) drew a walk. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) would single to score Troiano and an error by the left fielder would allow Dague to score on the play, giving Pace a 3-1. Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO/Conifer) singled to score Pane and the Setters would hold on in the final two innings top take game one.

On the hill for the Setters, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed a five-hitter, allowing one unearned run and struck out one to move her record over the .500 mark at 8-7.

In the nightcap, the Setters got on the board in the first inning as Pane led off with walk and Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) singled and stole second to put runners at second and third. Kinyon's double to left center score Pane and Hurley for a 2-0 Setter lead. Pace would tack on a run in the third as Kinyon's infield hit would allow Pane to cross the plate with the third run of the game. Kinyon's solo homerun in the sixth gave Pace a 4-0 lead. Assumption would not go quietly as they would slice the Setter lead in half, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth but reliever Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) would get the final out of the sixth and tossed a scoreless seventh to complete the sweep.

For Pace, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton, MA/Norton) started, tossing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while fanning three, to improve to 4-3 on the season Rescigno allowed two hits over the final 1 1/3 innings, to earn her second save of the season.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, April 19 when they will travel to Rindge, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Franklin Pierce scheduled for 12:00 pm first pitch.
