PACE SWEEPS BARTON IN NON-CONFERENCE TWIN

WILSON, NC- Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet,
MA/Apponequet) batted .571 in the twin bill, while
Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
scored a pair of the runs to lead the Pace softball team to a
non-conference double dip sweep over Barton. The Setters took game
1, 2-1 and finished off the nightcap with a 5-4 victory. The
Setters improve to 4-2, while the Barton drops to 7-18 on the
season.
In the opener, Pace did all their damage in the fifth an Pane
ripped a run scoring triple, while Hurley followed with a single to
score Pane. Barton rallied in the seventh, pushing across one run
but failed to tie the game, giving the Setters the win.
Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levittown, PA/Harry S Truman)
tossed a complete game one-hitter, allowing one unearned run and
struck out one.
In the nightcap, Pace got on the board early with a three run
first inning, keyed by run scoring singles by Sarah Meleney (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery)
(Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery) and Kinyon opened the
scoring. Kinyon scored the third run of the inning on a passed
ball. The Setters would tack on a run in the sixth and one more in
the seventh to hold off Barton and complete the sweep.
On the mound, Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good
Counsel Academy) tossed a complete game, allowing 10 hits
and three earned runs, while striking out three.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Petersburg, VA to
take on Virginia State University on Friday, March 21 for a
non-conference twin bill scheduled for 2 pm.
